L’AAPC avance ses propositions pour le Mémorial national aux victimes du communisme

OTTAWA, LE 23 FÉVRIER 2015 – L’Association des architectes paysagistes du Canada (AAPC) demande respectueusement que le site choisi pour l’érection du Monument commémoratif aux victimes du communisme soit réexaminé. L’AAPC ne croit pas que l’emplacement proposé, voisin de la Cour suprême du Canada, soit approprié pour ce monument, car il se situe sur l’emplacement désigné pour la cour fédérale, dans le cadre de la vision et du plan à long terme (VPLT) pour la Cité parlementaire et la Cité judiciaire. Ce nouveau bâtiment viendra compléter la triade d’édifices en s’ajoutant à la Cour suprême du Canada au nord, conçue par Ernest Cormier, et à l’Édifice de la justice à l’est, conçu par Burritt et Horwood Architects. Le monument commémoratif semble être conçu comme un élément permanent, alors qu’à l’emplacement actuel, on ne devrait envisager qu’un monument temporaire. La VPLT montre non seulement un édifice, mais indique également un stationnement souterrain, des tunnels et installations souterrains y compris de livraison et d’entreposage à cet endroit même. De toute évidence, placer un monument à cet endroit entraverait la construction d’un édifice futur parlementaire ou judiciaire, et la mise en œuvre de tous les plans à long terme dans le secteur.
